    Švėkšna – Mažoji Lietuvos kultūros sostinė 2025

    The Ministry of Culture announced that Švėkšna will become the Little Capital of Culture of Lithuania in 2025. Švėkšna is a town on the border between Lithuania Minor and Žemaitija, which has long been full of historical and cultural heritage objects, historical personalities who worked and lived here, whose merits are important not only for the western region of Lithuania, but also for the entire country. By combining the historical and cultural heritage with relevant and attractive forms of activities, švekšniški will invite you to get to know the rich history of the town, the active community and its works.

    Participation in the activities of the Small Capital of Culture will provide a unique opportunity to strengthen and expand the traditions of the community's cultural activities, develop cultural tourism, and promote new creative initiatives.

    Since 2014 The annual project „Small Capitals of Lithuanian Culture” focuses on smaller Lithuanian towns and villages, characterized by exceptional cultural diversity and active community activities. More than 80 settlements have already become small capitals of culture. The winners of the competition attract visitors not only from the region, but also from the whole country, organize many events, and nurture cultural heritage and living traditions.

    The applicants are the Tėviškė association of skunks, which carries out active cultural activities in Švėkšna, and Violeta Astrauskienė, the chairperson of this organization, and Agnė Duobinienė, the organizer of the cultural activities of Švėkšna department of the Šilutė culture and entertainment center.
