    On January 15, the last event dedicated to the centenary of the annexation of Klaipėda region to Lithuania took place in the Šilutė culture and entertainment center. On a crisp January evening, the exhibition „1923 – ieji. Klaipėda and Lithuania: history, politics, diplomacy”.

    The exhibition will be open until February 16, on weekdays from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

    The exhibition prepared by the Museum of the History of Little Lithuania together with its partners, which will be open in the lobby of the second floor of the Šilutė Culture and Entertainment Center until February 16, invites you to get to know the history, development and significance of the Klaipėda region for the state of Lithuania. The exhibition aims not only to present 1923 in detail and objectively. events, to assess the circumstances of Klaipėda region's annexation to Lithuania, but also to provide a broader historical and cultural context.

    The historical visual narrative provides an opportunity to look retrospectively at the region of Little Lithuania, in the 19th century. in the second half of the 20th century the cultural contacts born at the beginning, the challenges of the Great War, the situation of the Klaipėda region in 1919-1922, to recreate the events of 1923 and to tell about the personalities who determined the future of the region. The exhibition uses documentary, cartographic, and iconographic material collected in various Lithuanian and French archives, museums, libraries, and private collections over several decades. Some of it is little known or presented to the public for the first time. The textual and visual information is complemented by exceptional authentic exhibits: Special selection of officers in 1923. the map used during the events of January, the personal pistol of J. Budris and the 1937 written memories, unique photos from prof. D. Kaunas collection, etc.
