In March, seniors are invited to special screenings of the „Humming Beehive” film program in various cities of Lithuania, which were created by the seniors themselves. The Lithuanian Short Film Agency „Lithuanian Shorts” aims to promote the diversity of cultural activities and the availability of professional cinema for seniors and initiates free screenings of the Lithuanian short film program in more than 20 Lithuanian cultural institutions.
Films in Šilute will be shown on March 12. at 3 p.m. In the Silutė culture and entertainment center.
The program was compiled in the autumn workshop for seniors
The program presenting the films of Lithuanian filmmakers was compiled last autumn in a special creative workshop called „Cinematic Journeys”. Seven seniors who are actively interested in culture and cinema spent three days delving into the world of short films: they got to know short films, the principles and processes of creating festival programs, watched almost 20 Lithuanian short films and made a program of five films „The Humming Beehive” from them. The director of the creative workshop is Ieva Šukytė, creator of the Vilnius Short Film Festival program and film critic.
„Cinema trip” seniors-program makers: Aldona Mikalonienė, Danutė Sklenienė, Gintautas Saulėnas, Vida Juškienė, Rita Striukienė, Genovaitė Danilevičienė and Genovaitė Žukauskienė.
„I liked participating in film workshops in the company of like-minded people and peers. Debate while evaluating films, find commonalities and differences of opinion, concentrate your thoughts, empathize with the characters of the film, feel the importance of each episode and understand the creator's vision. I was surprised how many unexpected and original stories can be fit into a short film,” shares workshop participant and program creator Danutė.
Free sessions for seniors throughout Lithuania
March 1-24 the „Buzzing Beehive” program will reveal the kaleidoscope of relationships to older viewers and invite them to embark on five intriguing, entertaining and at the same time sentimental stories of movie characters.
„People's lives are like a hive of buzzing bees. Somewhat comical and dramatic, the film's stories reveal an attitude towards life and the diversity of human relationships: relationships between parents and children, men and women, different generations. The characters in the films are trying to find their place in relationships, in society, and are in a constant process of getting to know themselves and others,” the seniors who compiled the program present the program.
The program „Dūzgiantis avilys” presents 5 short films by Lithuanian creators: „How to be human” (dir. J. Janavičiūtė), „Mothers” (dir. B. Kapustinskaitė), „Shokis” (dir. D. Minkevičius), „Disruption” (dir. P. Kuneika), „Daddy” (dir. J. Ramanauskas).
25 Lithuanian cultural institutions have joined the initiative, organizing free sessions for seniors. The program of short films „Dūzgiantis avilys” will be presented in cultural institutions of Kaunas, Šiauliai, Radviliškis, Anykščiai and other cities. March 23 before the screening at the Kaunas Artists' House, there will be an opportunity to get to know the program's senior authors, who will present the program and its films to the audience. All screening locations are available here , and screening dates and times will be listed at the screening locations.
The initiator of the screenings is the Lithuanian short film agency „Lithuanian Shorts”, whose activities are financed by the Lithuanian Council of Culture.
