On Tuesday afternoon, we invited the people of Šiluti to celebrate Freedom Defenders Day and remember why we are free. We started this day with the civic initiative „Memory is alive because it bears witness”. Since early morning, memorial candles were lit for ten minutes in the windows of the Šilute culture and entertainment center. At twelve o'clock St. In the Church of the Cross, a mass was held in memory of the Motherland and the victims of January 13.

In the afternoon, the people of Šiluti gathered for the commemoration dedicated to Defenders of Freedom Day. The event was hosted by volunteers Greta and Jonas, the word FREEDOM was formed from candles in the yard of the Šilutė Culture and Entertainment Center. A concert was held, during which the volunteers of the Šilute Rifles Union built a memorial altar, and we sang the Lithuanian national anthem.

After the event, we invited guests to a free screening of R. Banionis' art film „Children from the American Hotel” (1990).
