On August 16, at 21:00, the final event of the festival „Kelaujanti vetrungė: faith, legends and book giants” will take place at the Ventės Horn lighthouse. This special evening is dedicated to faith and lighthouses, promising to combine the historical past with contemporary culture.
One of the highlights of the event is the celebration of International Lighthouse Day. On this occasion, the lighthouses of Nida and Vente Horn will be lit simultaneously. They both have special historical elements. The Nida lighthouse is equipped with a special crystal lens, manufactured in Ukraine in 1950 at the Izium factory, which won an award at an international exhibition in Paris before coming to Nida.
The Ventės horn lighthouse is not far behind the Nida lighthouse – it is one of the essential and most original lighthouses in Lesser Lithuania, built and starting its navigation work as early as 1863. According to the director of Neringa museums, dr. Linas Motuzienės: „Lighthouses have great and unique historical and cultural value. They are important symbols of maritime history and heritage, and in recent decades many have been converted into museums or attractions to preserve this valuable history and culture for future generations. Emphasizing the symbolic meaning of lighthouses, they often symbolize light, hope and safety, and remind us of humanity's ability to overcome difficulties and find a way even in the darkest and most dangerous situations.” The convocation of the lighthouses of Nida and Vente Horn will be a special spectacle that will connect two important coastal areas and will invite you to remember the importance of lighthouses in navigation and in people's lives.
According to project manager Viktorija Binkulienė, the event is intended not only for local residents, but also for everyone interested in heritage, history and culture. The festival „Travelling Weathervane: faith, legends and giants of books” has been traveling around various parts of Little Lithuania for the second year, bringing the message about the identity of this land. The closing event of the festival at the Vente Cape Lighthouse will be a great opportunity to end this year's journey with an exceptional evening full of authenticity, history and inspiration.
The organizers of the festival, the National Culture Road „Vėtrungeių kelias” and the Šilutė Culture and Entertainment Center, invite you to come to the event earlier and enjoy the natural beauty of Ventė Horn, visit one of the oldest and most impressive lighthouses in Lithuania.
